Corrie and Betsie were eventually separated, and Corrie endured unspeakable suffering, including living in deplorable conditions, watching her sister's health deteriorate, and witnessing the deaths of many around her. In February 1944, the Ten Boom family was arrested by the Gestapo and sent to Nazi concentration camps. Unfortunately, their courageous efforts did not go unnoticed. Corrie, along with her father and sister, Betsie, risked their lives to provide a safe haven for those fleeing Nazi persecution. She assisted in running the Ten Boom watch shop, which also functioned as a secret refuge for Jews and members of the Dutch resistance during World War II.
